Connected Kids is a playgroup for neurodivergent children ages 5-7, with caregiver support and education taking place simultaneously.
Our multidisciplinary team leaders include an occupational therapist, speech therapist, and licensed clinical social worker. Children will progress each week from foundational work to more complex, using play-based activities. We will address:
- Peer social skills (turn-taking, making friends, understanding social cues),
- Communication skills (expressive and receptive language, nonverbal communication, initiating and maintaining conversations)
- Emotional regulation (recognizing and expressing emotions, managing frustration, coping with sensory sensitivities),
- Motor skills, play skills, sensory integrative processing, and more!
The caregiver group, led by the same team (2 sessions with each discipline), will offer targeted support for your journey as the parent of a neurodivergent child. Topics include:
- Understanding neurodivergence,
- Communicating effectively with your neurodivergent child,
- Reframing your child’s behavior,
- Caregiver stress management and self-care,
- Problem-solving for your family’s unique needs.
Caregivers create a take-home binder throughout the program, adding material shared each week (handouts, reference materials, book suggestions, etc.), providing a reminder of key concepts and strategies after the program concludes. Children will also create a take-home binder containing artwork, photos, and descriptions of their participation in the program.
We are so excited to bring you this unique program, unlike anything else you’ll find in central Virginia!
Our fee is $60 per session or $300 for all six weeks, which reflects the experience and expertise our facilitators bring to the group, plus resources and materials provided. We believe this investment will have a lasting positive impact on your child’s confidence in social situations and on your confidence as a parent!
